Planning a special date for the upcoming weekend? Have you scheduled yet another movie and dinner date? Or maybe you’re planning to visit a farmers’ market or take in some miniature golf. Whatever you’re looking for, there is so much going on in San Jose that you’ll be hard pressed not to find a ridiculously fun plan for your date. To help you out, here are our suggestions for the perfect Day-Date!
Fuel Up First
Comfort is king at Roots & Rye, which specializes in upscale American comfort classics. The weekend brunch menu is certainly no exception, and you can fuel up on all sorts of delectable breakfast options that are perfect to keep you going all day long. Try the R&R Omelet or a classic Huevos Rancheros. Or go for something a little bit decadent and try the Short Rib Benedict, which comes with fried onion rings and home fries, in addition to the amazing eggs and classic braised short ribs. Cap it off with a bottomless mimosa or a Bloody Mary and you’ve got the perfect weekend brunch.
Pay Homage to a Mammoth
As the story goes, in 2005, a truck mechanic was walking his dog along the Guadalupe River. As he walked, his dog started pawing at something near the edge of the water – and it turned out to be the bones of a Columbian Mammoth. Of course, local geologists were alerted and scientists from UC Berkely were able to determine that the find was indeed the tusks of a 12,500 year-old juvenile mammoth and it is the most complete remains of a mammoth ever found in Santa Clara county. While the bones themselves are on display at a nearby museum, you can still stop by the location to check out the artwork marking the spot. An 11-foot-tall pipe sculpture of the mammoth is there in its stead, and is a fun photo-op and local history lesson.
Learn All About Innovation
Museums are always a great way to enjoy a date and you’re sure to love The Tech – a museum of innovation. The sprawling galleries are home to tons of hands-on exhibitions that explore how technology is changing our lives. Learn about biodesign, body metrics and innovations in health care, or check out the galleries on robotics, virtual reality and even a section on how technology is helping the world. Everything here is hands-on, interactive and fascinating fun, so plan to spend at least a couple of hours as you wander through the many different areas to learn all about innovation and technology today.
And Solve a Murder
End the perfect day with the perfect date night activity – The Dinner Detective. If you’ve never been to one of The Dinner Detective’s interactive murder mystery dinner shows, it’s unlike any other show around. Instead of cheesy costumes, the murder is set in present day, with actors hidden throughout the room. That’s right, you might even end up sitting at the same table as the murderer. You’ll get to interrogate everyone, ask lots of questions, explore clues and see if you can solve the crime – and two hilarious detectives are on the case to help you throughout the whole night. Plus it’s all served with a delicious four-course plated dinner so you get dinner and a full night of entertainment without having to drive across town or find new parking. Hurry though, seating for these shows is always limited, so be sure to book early!
